Jaya says Raja threatened judge

AIADMK leader and opposition leader J Jayalalithaa has said that it was Union information technology and communications Minister A Raja who has threatened the Madras HC judge in connection with the marks forgery case.
Earlier on Tuesday the judge has informed before the court that a Union Minister has tried to influence him to to grant anticipatory bail for the father son duo who were arrested by the CBI for forging marksheets.
Though the judge did not disclose the minister's identity, Jayalalitha claimed that there were enough evidence to support the Union Minister's link with the duo involved. The incident has created a controversy with the entire opposition staging a walkout in the Assembly.

Chennai gets NSG hub

The National Security Guard(NSG) regional unit in Chennai is going operational from July 1st onwards. The Chennai hub will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.
The NSG hub will be set up in 85 acres of land at Vandalur near Chennai and till it becomes functional, the unit will continue operating from Police Training Centre in Chennai.
By setting up new bases, the government expects to bring down the response time of NSG to act in case of terror events. Besides Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata are also getting NSG hubs.

Blame game over Katchatheevu issue

Both DMK and opposition party AIADMK are fighting over the Katchatheevu issue.
When AIADMK leader Jayalalitha blamed Karunanidhi for not taking proper measures to save the Katchatheevu, the DMK leader hit back saying that it was Jayalalitha's party which did not support the motion when it was presented in the Assembly in 1974 and then staged a walkout in the Assembly.
Karunanidhi also maintained that the AIADMK was playing petty politics rather than actually interested in solving the issue.

Wi5 unveiled in Chennai

Chennai City is going wireless with the WiFi broadband services launched by a leading software solutions provider.
The wireless system named 'Wi5 services' is provided by Zylog Systems is implemented using mesh network architecture and the firm also plans to extend these services to other major cities of India.
Once operational these cities will be Wifi enabled zones and customers in these cities would be able to access the wi5 services while on the move using a Wi-Fi enabled laptop/ PC or a mobile device or a separate Wi-Fi card.
The service is available in varying speeds of 1Mbps, 2Mbps, and 4Mbps based on which rates are made ranging from Rs500-1700.

Rs 550cr for Chennai Metro Rail

The Tamil Nadu government has set aside Rs 550cr towards the first phase for the construction of the Chennai Metro Rail Project. The project is also being allocated a Rs 13 crore fund from the Center overnment.
The initial phase would comprise of two corridors with a total length of 45 km which is likely to begin operation in 5 years.
Corridor 1 will conenct Washermanpet to Airport via Anna Salai while Corridor 2 will connect Chennai Central with St Thomas Mount via Koyambedu.
The total project cost is estimated at Rs 14,600 crore, 59 percent of which will be funded through loan by the government of Japan.
