But over the last few months, Thiagarajan rubbed his political bosses on the wrong side. Even Chief Minister Jayalalithaa is said to have recently given him a dressing down at a meeting of the party's Corporation Councillors for his reported overbearing style of functioning. In the city, the Deputy Mayor's wife held a press conference and said she fears for her husband's life if he returns to Tamil Nadu. Breaking its silence since Thiagarajan went missing, the Tamil Nadu government through its Law Minister has issued a statement that the Deputy Mayor's fears are imaginary and the whole episode is politically stage-managed.
