Padhavi Paduthum Paadu
Wednesday, June 29, 2005 | AY

Padhavi Paduthum Paadu is in the line of films on nefarious sandalwood smuggler Veerappan and his clashes with politicians. 'Padhavi Paduthum Paadu' is about how a forest brigand punishes the land brigands or politicians. Ranjith is well suited to play the role of the forest don. His big moustache and arrogant laughter are in keeping with the character. Tughlak Sathya's dialogues take a clear dig at the present political scenario, but some of the dialogues are too long. Pyramid Natarajan is fabulous as the politician. There's nothing special to mention about the music, camera or execution of the film.

Forest brigand Ranjith kidnaps the ex chief minister Ravichandran, takes him away into the forest and demands a huge ransom for his release. The present chief minister Pyramid Natarajan is only too happy to have Ravichandran out of his way and makes no effort to secure his release. There's a sudden twist that Ranjith staged the Ravichandran kidnapping and it was all a drama.

Boney felt that the subject of the film is such that it should be viewed by a larger audience, hence it was being dubbed in 5 regional languages as well as in French apart from the original Hindi. The film appears crude at times and character Kalki, the ‘only woman’ cast in the film is depicted as a sex object. The plot deals with the sruggles of a father to find brides for his five sons in a village, which has no women and drives home the point that absence of women inevitably leads to the humiliation of men.
