Rajni disappointed foreign audience
Tuesday 5 August 2008

Nayan: Superstar Rajinikanth may well be the demigod of the Tamil masses and he may surely be enjoying an international appeal but then the truth remains that there are a healthy pocket of people who find his films to be ridiculous and after the hype and publicity the film makes before its release, the end result has been disappointing in some cases, especially with the foreign audience. Added to that is the inclusion of a sheepish scene which was shown in 'Kuselan' where folks from Japan come only to clap hands which is totally not their culture or approach. It can be agreed that Rajini surely enjoys a great charm and has been very influencing on the people of India but then care must be taken to ensure that his films meet at least the basic requirements of the foreign audience.

Even a case was filed at the police station for hurting the sentiment of the Tamil people. Rajnkanth to finish Balachander film first
Thursday 31 January 2008

Nayan: Not many might know the famous South Indian director and producer K Balachander. He is probably best remembered in Bollywood for making the Kamal Hassan – Rati Agnihotri starrer Ek Duje Ke Liye way back in 1981. Off late, the successful director had been going through a rough patch professionally and financially as well.   K Balachander's biggest discovery is definitely India's highest paid superstar Rajnikanth. The actor made his debut in Balachander's Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal and it was no looking back for the actor who is now considered a God down south.  Now in his hour of need, Rajnikanth is going all out to help his mentor get out of his financial crunch.. Normally, Rajnikanth does one film every one or two years and allots anywhere from 100-200 days for the film. Now he has signed Shankar's Robot but when he came to know of Balachander's problems, he decided to put the film on hold and finish a quick film for Balachander.

Tamil super hero Rajnikanth to act in 3D animation film
Monday 14 January 2008

Chennai, Jan 14 (ANI): India gets its first 3-D superhero, when south Indian film star Rajnikanth dons an animated persona for a forthcoming film titled- 'Sultan the Warrior'.

Rajnikanth, a regional star whose flamboyance is unequalled by Bollywood actors and who may have even more fans than super star Amitabh Bachchan, has become the first actor to be animated ever in Indian entertainment history.

His unique acting style is characterised by a trademark gesture - toss a cigarette in the air, catch it in his lips, then light it with a match struck on a shirtsleeve.

'Sultan the Warrior' will also see the superstar-actor fighting off villains in his trademark style, though with a lot more stylish gestures thrown in for the viewer's delight.

Directing Rajnikanth in his animated venture is none other than his daughter Soundarya, who is debuting with 'Sultan the Warrior'.

According to her, the film is a 'daughter's gift to a father', whose personal life reads like a movie script - he started as a poor bus conductor in Bangalore with a penchant for acting, before making it big in the glamour world.

"Sultan the Warrior is the first of its kind. If you were to look into Indian entertainment history, the first actor to ever be animated will be my father. He's the first actor in the whole of South-East Asia to get animated. And this kind of a film genre has never been attempted in India before," said Soundarya.

"And with this, we hope to set a benchmark for Indian animation. There have been animation films before in India but, not of quality that we are trying to achieve with this movie," she added.

A complete work of fiction, the film is being made in an animation studio in Chennai, on a budget of 10 million U.S. dollars, with a crew of 80 members working on it.

The makers are attempting to create a benchmark for Indian animation films, by taking care to produce a good quality film, one that would burst the myth that only Hollywood can churn out superlative animations.

Work on 'Sultan the Warrior' is expected to be over by the end of the year and the film is slated to be release in 12 different world languages. (ANI)

K.Balachander to direct Rajini?
Thursday 10 January 2008

Nayan: The Rajini- K.Balachander combo has given some great movies, but it's been quite a while since the two teamed up again. But the latest spice is that Rajini will be acting in a movie to be produced by K Balachander under the Kavithalaya banner. Rajini who recently watched the Malayalam flick Katha Parayumbol, which was Mamootty's X'mas offer in 2007, was deeply moved by the story. The movie is about the friendship between a barber in a village and a movie star who comes to that village for a shooting. This moving story on friendship had Mammootty play the movie star and Sreenivasan as the barber. Both actors have given splendid performances and our Superstar was immediate in appreciating Sreenivasan for his acting as well as his powerful dialogues.
