Talk of the town: Karuna and film functions
Nayan: Chief minister M. Karunanidhi defended his attending film industry functions, saying that he had also been devoting his attention to serving the people. Reacting to friend-turned-foe Dr. S. Ramadoss, founder of the PMK, who had accused him of wasting time watching movies and participating in Kollywood functions, a furious Karunanidhi asked, "Is it a sin to attend film functions?" Listing the various government functions he had attended over the last couple of years, he wrote in the DMK's mouthpiece, Murasoli, "Dr. Ramadoss himself had invited me to view the film in which he had acted in a few scenes." Was it a waste of time watching the movie, he asked.

Nayan: One must have heard of food items named after actors, like the Kushboo idlis, Shriya dosas and Namitha biryani. But now, a special tea called the Kamal Tea is being served at a tea kadai called Mid East Cup Area in Eldams Road. The shop has been serving this popular tea named after Kamal Haasan for the last 17 years. From itinerant vendors to techies from the surrounding areas, the tea is a local hit among all. "I am a great fan of Kamal sir and this is my dedication for him, says Damodharan who has been running the shop for last 33 years. Nayan: Superstar Rajinikanth may well be the demigod of the Tamil masses and he may surely be enjoying an international appeal but then the truth remains that there are a healthy pocket of people who find his films to be ridiculous and after the hype and publicity the film makes before its release, the end result has been disappointing in some cases, especially with the foreign audience. Added to that is the inclusion of a sheepish scene which was shown in 'Kuselan' where folks from Japan come only to clap hands which is totally not their culture or approach. It can be agreed that Rajini surely enjoys a great charm and has been very influencing on the people of India but then care must be taken to ensure that his films meet at least the basic requirements of the foreign audience. In the letter, Rajinikanth says that his statements during the Hogenakkal issue might have hurt a certain segment of people.
